Portuguese, with more than 210 million native speakers, is today one of the sixth most spoken languages in the world. According to estimations of the UN the population of Brazil and the Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP) will double today’s numbers until 2050, which means Portuguese international importance might increase. Apart from that Brazil is one of Germany’s most significant commercial partners and also has a leading role at Mercosul. The fact that the Portuguese speaking world raises great interest from an economical point of view, explains the students’ frequent demand related to the language.
Method: We try to stimulate students to develop their communicating ability through a cross-cultural perspective. In the cultural area we work with contemporary topics, which represent the reality of the modern Brazilian society and are understandable for the students. “Learning with fun” is very important for us as well as individual contact to our students.
